Thank you to United Airlines for providing round-trip airfare to 18 accepted students and their family members to attend the annual Garnet D. Baltimore Dinner and Accepted Students Celebration at Rensselaer last month.

The visit afforded accepted students and family members the opportunity to see and experience the Rensselaer campus first-hand, before making a decision on attending Rensselaer in the fall. Miriam Hancock, from Marion, Arkansas, was one of those students. Here’s what she had to say about the experience:

“I had a great time at both the Garnet Baltimore Dinner and Accepted Students Celebration! With the Garnet Baltimore event, I got to see all the people who looked like me, and that made me feel better about coming to RPI in the fall. My mother loved both events; she was able to learn much more about the school and also felt better about me going to RPI. Seeing all the different clubs and the pep band was my favorite part of the Accepted Student Celebration! My flights were great.”

Following enlightening and inspiring remarks from President Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D., Linda Pitzi Jojo ’87, ’92G, Executive Vice President, Technology, and Chief Digital Officer, United Airlines, Incorporated, and a member of the Rensselaer Board of Trustees, addressed the students and their families at the dinner. Ms. Jojo, representing both her alma mater and United Airlines, spoke about her own experiences at Rensselaer and the impact they had on her life and career.

She encouraged the assembled group of talented young men and women to make the most of their visit and expressed confidence that they would soon discover for themselves what makes Rensselaer and its community of students, faculty, and staff so special.

In total, 79 accepted students, joined by 120 family members, hailing from 21 states, attended the special occasion.

Experience tells us that when bright and talented accepted students, like Miriam, are able to visit Rensselaer, they are more likely to enroll. We are excited to report that Miriam Hancock will be joining fellow members of the Rensselaer Class of 2023 in the fall. Congrats, Miriam!

We appreciate the support of United Airlines for enabling prospective students and their family members to visit the Rensselaer campus, and for its enduring commitment to scholarship support at Rensselaer.
