I started my journey about 8,000 miles from here in a small town in India. As someone who was intrigued by the human body and engaged in community service, I knew that I wanted to become a doctor from a young age. Biology was a topic that resonated with me, and the possibility of becoming that saving grace for someone in need.
I knew the moment I came here for Student Orientation, and participated in Navigating Rensselaer and Beyond, that this was home. The campus felt familiar, the professors seemed personable, and the student body was accepting. I was no longer a family member of a Rensselaer alumna, but rather a Rensselaer student myself.
The best thing about Rensselaer is the strong collaborative environment that allows students to grow, not only academically, but professionally and socially as well. Education is the most powerful tool in the world that permits someone to take full control of their life and transform it for the betterment of others.
Every talented student contributes to the unique education at Rensselaer. Education does not only occur in the lecture hall or in a laboratory, but in every conversation among students, their professors, and their peers. I have had the opportunity to widen my experiences by engaging in organizations such as Red & White, iPersist Mentoring, Learning Assistance Program, and the 2018 Student Orientation Team.
My experiences in welcoming the Class of 2022 as a student orientation coordinator last summer, in particular, have permitted me to see the beauty of Rensselaer and appreciate all the different paths students take to be here. And now as a Learning Assistant, I live in the residence halls and act as a constant academic and social resource for those very students.
