Patroon Scholars

Program of the Annual Fund

The power to make a difference in the lives of our students is fully realized through the Patroon Scholars Program. With a gift of $10,000 per year for four years (or five if the student is in the School of Architecture), you can change lives by easing the financial burden for a student. Your gift will sponsor an individual student, or students, selected by the Office of Financial Aid during their term of study at Rensselaer.

Participants in these programs are encouraged to meet their students throughout the year, particularly at the annual Celebration of Support, and many have developed lasting relationships over the years. In addition to providing counsel to students, Patroon Scholar donors help to instill a culture of philanthropy at Rensselaer and inspire the next generation to give.

This scholarship and generous donation to Rensselaer has made my dream of coming here a reality. In the future I, too, hope to fund a Patroon Scholar because someone was nice enough to do it for me.

Like most students today, Harrison shouldered the financial burden of going to college. However, thanks to Frank Fischer ’64, a supporter of the Patroon Scholars Program of the Rensselaer Annual Fund, Harrison did not need to think about where all of the money was coming from, allowing him to pursue his studies and interests without worry.

Fisher finds it gratifying to give back to his alma mater. “I wouldn't have been able to attend Rensselaer without scholarship aid. It's important for me to be able to give back and help others get an education as I was helped many years ago.” Fisher also enjoys hearing from the students he has supported.  “It's terrific to hear about their interests, majors and aspirations…I hope to participate in the program for many years to come.”

Bond is very grateful to the Fishers, receiving their support was a catalyst in his final decision to attend Rensselaer. He also hopes to one day have the opportunity to “pay it forward” by investing in the education of future Rensselaer students.

…I was ecstatic when I found out I could pay tuition…that single award took care of the rest of the financial worries I had.
